Behind the Scenes with Shinstarr's Olhso AutoWok
Cooking and delivering Korean cuisine across the Bay Area
In recent weeks, two interesting new machines can be seen plying the streets of the SF Bay Area; OLHSO Korean BBQ & Seafood’s robotic kitchen and delivery trucks are now live in Foster City. Ottomate has exclusive, behind the scenes video footage of how the machinery creates Korean dishes like wagyu galbi and japchae stir fry.
Parent company Shinstarr is based out of South Korea, and has already installed its robotic kitchens in stationary setups for tech heavyweights like Samsung. But for its American launch, the company decided to put the tech on wheels, bringing the meals directly to customers. Each van requires just a single employee, the driver.
Machines Make a Meal
In this first video, we can see the Automated Refrigeration Unit (the “AutoTray”) grabbing the appropriate canister containing fresh ingredients and offloading it to the transfer robot (“Handler.”)
Next, the Handler transfers the contents of the canister into the AutoWok. Notice the Handler hovering over the AutoWok for a few moments as it waits for the wok to pre-heat to the precise temperature for cooking the meal.
Finally, the AutoWok cooks the meals, transfers it into the serving bowl, and enters self-cleaning mode. The serving robot then grabs the bowl and transfers it to the expo area where it waits for the driver to grab it upon arrival at the diner’s destination.
