Curbivore - Championing Commerce at the Curb
We created Curbivore in the early days of the pandemic, after seeing how dramatically businesses, and the cities that depend on them, were being altered. I thought that with my own experience in the industry, and (more importantly) by collecting some of the most knowledgable folks in interrelated and equally important fields, we could help business operators, regulators, entrepreneurs, restaurateurs, city officials, real estate owners, retailers, investors and the like stay one step ahead of the transformation that was being unleashed.
In 2020 we brought together folks like ChowNow CEO Chris Webb, Uber Eats then Head of Product Daniel Danker, reporters from publications as varied as Eater and CityLab, innovators from companies like Bbot (remember when QR menus felt novel?) and Mercato, deep thinkers from places like the Harvard Kennedy School, an eclectric mix of chefs and restaurateurs like Alex Canter, La Morra Pizza’s Marlee Blodgett, and Baology’s Judy Ni, plus folks regulating the streets and outdoor dining spaces that were suddenly filled with both patio seating and curious delivery bots. Catch replays of that great and still insightful content here.
In early 2022, we were able to return to in-person gatherings, and let me tell you does this topic really lend itself to actually seeing things in real life, especially the way we host things at Curbivore: a unique indoor-outdoor setting, highlighting the adaptability of the curb and repurposed parking lots. We brought together six different delivery bot companies (a number still unmatched at any other event, I believe,) software innovators like Snackpass and Lunchbox, folks making solar powered outdoor dining setups, amazing food that included the likes of Ziki, Virtual Dining Concepts and local tamaleros, plus cool truck-based business concepts and a plethora of interesting scooter and ebikes all vying to be the delivery vehicle of the future.
If that wasn’t enough, our stage was graced by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, department of transportation leaders like Seleta Reynolds (you want a bot on a street - you better have the ears of the right permitters!), insightful minds from organizations like the California Restaurant Association, CityGrows and Reef, plus interesting speeches from the 15-minute / instant delivery sector (oh how the times have changed…) Take a look at some of that content as well.
What’s In Store for Curbivore 2023
We’ve already announced our first batch of speakers, bringing together an unparalleled mix of innovators and top decision makers from the likes of Uber, Walmart, Stellar Pizza (can’t wait to try those robotic pizzas!), Bloomberg, Sprinkles, Kitchen United, Yummy.com, and more. I can also say that we’ll have at least two new delivery robotics companies in the mix - making Curbivore the place to get a handle on that transformative industry. Add in great food to try, amazing new delivery vehicles to explore, and some can’t miss parties - March 3rd is going to really be something special.
